Robert Payne (eng. Robert Payne; December 4, 1911, Saltash, Cornwall, England – March 3, 1983) – Anglo-American writer, historian, biographer, translator. Author of over 110 books.BiographyThe son of an Englishman and a Frenchwoman. His father was a shipbuilder. Robert was the eldest of their three sons.Studied at St. Paul’s School in London. In 1928-30. studied at the University of Cape Town and in 1929-30 at the Diocesan College in Rondebosch Cape Town. In 1933-35 he studied at the University of Liverpool, in the summer of 1937 – at the University of Munich, and in 1938 at the Sorbonne in Paris.He first followed in his father’s footsteps and worked for the shipbuilding company Cammell Laird from 1931-33. In 1936, Payne worked in the kingdom’s government tax department. In 1937-38 he traveled to Europe.In the summer of 1946, he visited India from China.In the winter of 1946, he moved to the United States, whose citizenship he received in 1953.In 1949-54 he was professor of at the University of Montevallo.From 1954 until the end of his life he lived in New York.Died while on vacation in .He in 1942, but divorced in 1952.
